Is a Vegan Diet Healthy? All You Need to Know, One Last Time!

I have been following a vegan diet for the past two years. Before this, I was a typical meat head. I was under the impression, like most, that to have the strength of a bull, I needed to eat a high protein meat-based diet. It never occurred to me, that bulls don’t eat meat! So, two years ago, after educating myself on the realities of the meat and dairy industries, I overhauled my life. Even though my strength and physique are better than ever before, I’m continuously getting asked is a vegan diet healthy?

The advantages of a vegan diet and lifestyle have actually led me to encourage many of my friends and family members to adopt this dietary change. I’m writing this blog for those that are interested in educating themselves on the benefits of this way of life and answering the question is a vegan diet healthy?

We will have a look at some of the popular foods typically eaten by non-vegans and offer you the main reasons why these should be removed or significantly reduced for the benefit of your health and the planet.

Meat

It is well known these days, either giving up or substantially reducing our meat intake is essential for a healthy mind, body and soul. Raw vegetables and fruits contain vital nutrients that protect against numerous diseases and health conditions. Some of these diseases we look to avoid, can actually be carried by the meat we consume.

If you suffer from gout rheumatism, then most doctors will strongly advise you to remove meat from your diet. Also, if asthma is having an impact in your life, then avoiding all animal products and refined foods may help you in reducing your use of inhalers. By the time meat reaches your plate, it is in a state of decomposition, generating a host of toxins, uric acid and mucus within the human body.

The nutrients within meat are extremely out of balance. It contains a very high amount of protein while practically lacking in vital nutrients and calcium. The research conducted for “The China Study” by Drs. T. Colin Campbell and Thomas Campbell reveal that meat contains several poisonous toxins which can contribute to blood pressure problems and chronic illnesses. This is why doctors restrict meat consumption for their patients struggling with blood pressure problems.

If you are interested in eating more of a whole food plant-based diet then it may be easier if you began by reducing your meat consumption. Only have meat once in a day, at most 2 or 3 times a week. Fill your diets with raw fruits and green vegetables.

Dairy

The milk from any kind of animal is primarily too rich for human consumption. It is extremely acidic and creates mucus within our bodies. The ridiculous fact that humans feel the need to consume the breast milk of another animal which has had her baby removed is beyond me! The propaganda and commercial gain around the dairy industry are shocking. The happy cow commercials are a big lie!

A lot of individuals refer to themselves as lactose or dairy intolerant, this is generally not the case. Humans are not supposed to be drinking the milk of another creature. It has been revealed to trigger numerous problems in the stomach as well as colon, including nausea, bloating, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and so on. The calcium from cow’s milk is particularly difficult for us to absorb. This leads to its introduction into our bloodstream, where it will eventually deposit itself in our joints and cells, where it may create inflammation and chronic pain. These days the dairy industry pumps their animals with antibiotics, pesticides and growth hormones, to meet their commercial demands. This is extremely problematic to the individuals consuming these products.

In contrast to popular belief, consumption of dairy products will certainly not protect against osteoporosis. A study was undertaken at Harvard over 12 years, which looked at over 75000 women. They found that the women who drank milk 3 times a day, had a higher rate of broken bones than the women who drank very little to no milk.

Milk produced by an animal is designed for that animals’ babies alone. For our own optimum overall health, it is a good idea to remove dairy products from our diet. There is that much choice on the market these days, that we should not feel restricted in any way. All kinds of varieties are available, such as coconut, oat, soy, almond, hazelnut, rice, hemp and more. They all have their own qualities and taste, my favourite being oat milk for coffee and almond for cereal.

Honey

This highly promoted, at times extremely costly produce is always being marketed as a health product. So many people buy into this idea, without considering the obvious. As honey is partially digested, it enters the human bloodstream at a rapid pace. It elevates the blood sugar levels remarkably and the pancreas has to produce insulin to remedy this, or it could result in a fatality. As with Milk, honey is only meant for the bees that produce it. Organic genuine agave, date or maple syrup are a tastier, safer and sweeter alternative to honey.

Fish

People feel that fish is a particularly healthier form of protein than meat. They are mistaken! Fish goes off at a rapid pace, it turns rancid a lot quicker than meat. Sadly, we are destroying our oceans. Due to the pollution in the oceans, the majority of the fish are contaminated with heavy metals and plastics. Salmon is highly promoted as a healthy option and is widely available at a reasonable price these days. This is due to the fact it is being farmed in inhumane conditions. If we were to witness the environments these fish exist in, we would never take another bite.

Eggs

Some may say that eggs are even worse than meat. Research suggests that eating 1 egg is the equivalent of smoking 5 cigarettes! They are very high in cholesterol, acid-forming and increase your risk of heart disease.

Although certain meat eaters show some impressive physical traits, they typically do not display the endurance and strength of a vegan athlete. Have a look at some of the plant-based athletes, Farris Kendrick, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, Chris Paul, Venus Williams, Patrik Baboumian and Virat Kohli to name a few. The strongest and largest land animals are also vegans. Also, our far-off cousins, the Apes are vegans.

After reading all this, do you still need to ask is a vegan diet healthy? If you are still not convinced of the benefits of a vegan diet, then I urge you to give it a try. Go vegan for a month, your mind, body and soul will thank you for it.
